Comment! (0) | Recommend! Naked I came from my mother's womb Wednesday. 9.30.09 2:03 am Ah, the words of Job 1:21. Such a comfort to me now that I've learned I will not be going to Turkmenistan. Their government, despite granting us visas, decided on the spur of the moment that it will not accept Peace Corps volunteers this year. Which means, I will be going home tomorrow (or in the next few days) to no job, no car, and no plans. At least I have a home. That's more than I can say for many of the people I was scheduled to serve with. I half-joke that we have all become Internally Displaced Persons. My real worry is that something crazy in going on inside the Turkmen government, and that volunteers curently serving (who have not been asked to leave, as of now) will start seeing trouble. I worry so much for them, because this situation smacks of internal breakdown. Anyway, I am a drifter until I can get a new assignment. For now, I have a reserved ticket to Seattle that leaves tomorrow at 4pm, courtesy of Uncle Sam. However, I can call and change my date and destination. I might not even go home. I might go stay with BFF in AZ for a little while, or spend a week here in Philly. Any thoughts? Comment! (3) | Recommend! Despite the chaos of re-packing this morning, I am only missing one thing so far¡Xproper headphones. Alright, those are pretty easy to get¡K what¡¦s going to be next? Actually, I¡¦m hoping the worst has already happened. My original, perfect flight to staging was cancelled for ¡§aircraft maintenance.¡¨ So I switched over to one that changes over in Phoenix. Phoenix! So close, yet so far away from my dear best friend. Unfortunately, this inconvenient stopover means I won¡¦t arrive in Philadelphia until after 10pm, local time. No time to look around I guess ƒ¼. I¡¦ll have to try and cram in some sightseeing tomorrow. For all the panic of the past few days, I¡¦m finally on my way. I¡¦m resigned to the fact that I now have almost no control over what happens to me for the next several months. Calm waves are slipping over me, and I¡¦m starting to regain the excitement I felt upon first receiving my invitation to Turkmenistan.
